Kansas City Royals vs. Texas Rangers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-10-2023

A pair of American League teams look to start the new week off on a positive note as they kick off a series in the Lone Star State. The Kansas City Royals are on the road as they open up a three-game series with the Texas Rangers Monday night. Kansas City finished a three-game set on the road against the Giants Sunday afternoon looking for a sweep. The Royals rallied for a 6-5 win in the middle game of the series Saturday afternoon. Texas was on the road on the north side of the Windy City as they finished an interleague series with the Cubs Sunday afternoon trying to avoid a sweep. The Rangers were drubbed 10-3 in the middle game of the series Saturday afternoon. In the season series last year, the Rangers won the series 4-2, including taking two of three on the road in the most recent set June 27-29, 2022.

Kansas City started the year 1-6 but entered Sunday with back-to-back road wins over the Giants heading into the series finale. The Royals entered Sunday 3-6 on the year and stood fourth in the AL Central, 3.5 games behind the Twins for the top spot. On Saturday, Kansas City finished with eight hits with MJ Melendez the lone player with two. The Royals rallied from a 5-1 deficit as Bobby Witt Jr. (his second), Franmil Reyes (his second) and Salvador Perez (his second) each homered in the game. Pinch-runner Nate Eaton scored the winning run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch. Brady Singer didn’t factor in the decision as he threw six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Taylor Clarke (1-0) earned the win as he threw one inning, allowing three hits with no walks and three strikeouts, in relief. Aroldis Chapman worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out two, for his first save.

Zack Greinke is on the mound as he makes his third start of the season for the Royals in this contest. He comes in 0-2 with a 2.38 ERA, a 1.412 WHIP, two walks and eight strikeouts over 11.1 innings of work this season. Greinke took the loss in his last start, which came against the Blue Jays at home Wednesday. He threw six innings, allowing one run on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts in a game the Royals dropped 3-0. Greinke makes his 25th career appearance and 23rd start against the Rangers in this contest. He is 8-8 with a 3.63 ERA, a 1.144 WHIP, 30 walks and 123 strikeouts over 139 innings of work against them.
