Despite their last-place standing and record, the Kansas City Royals look like a team that is rounding into form as the 2023 season heads toward the final month. Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is starting to look like the superstar he was drafted to be, young players like Maikel Garcia, MJ Melendez, and Drew Waters have started to develop into everyday players, and pitchers like lefties Alec Marsh and Cole Ragans look like they could be pieces of the rotation for years to come. Ragans will get the ball for the Royals in the series finale in Oakland. Ragans has been a pleasant surprise for the Royals since coming over from the Rangers in a trade in July. Ragans is 2-1 in five starts for the Royals including three quality starts. He has allowed 29 hits in 28.2 innings pitched with an ERA of 2.51. He has faced Oakland once this year, in relief for the Rangers. He went just 1.1 innings and allowed one hit and one run while earning a no-decision.
