Kansas City Royals vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-28-2022

This Wednesday the (63-90) Kansas City Royals and the (60-92) Detroit Tigers will play game two of this three-game series. The first pitch will be thrown out at 6:40 PM EST inside Comerica Park. The last time that these two teams matched up, the Tigers ended up stealing two of three games.

The Kansas City Royals are coming into this one after winning their previous series against the Seattle Mariners. The Royals looked strong at the dish throughout the series, as they scored 13 runs in the final game. They will be looking to carry that momentum over into this game.

The Detroit Tigers are entering this one after sweeping the Chicago White Sox. They looked incredible on the mound, as they were very tough to score on. They held Chicago to just one run scored in the final game. They will also be looking to stay hot in this one.

This game was written/published before last night 's results.

The Kansas City Royals will not be playing in the postseason in 2022, as they have continued to slide in the wrong direction. They are currently 20.5 games back from the third and final Wild Card spot and they are still in fourth place in the AL Central. Kansas City is still 23.0 games back from the first-place Cleveland Guardians.

At the plate, the Royals are currently scoring 4.09 runs per game and they are hitting .245 as a team. This is the 23rd most runs scored per game and the 14th highest overall team batting average, as they have struggled to consistently reach base this season. They could also be better with men in scoring position, as they have continued to strand men in scoring position this season. Kansas City has also realized that they don't have a ton of power inside of their lineup. They are only averaging .87 bombs per game, which is the third least in the league. I would watch for Bobby Witt Jr. at the plate, as he currently leads the team with a .257 batting average. The Royals have also been extremely aggressive once they have reached base safely. They have already swiped 100 bases this season, which is the fifth most.

According to MLB.com, the Royals will be starting Daniel Lynch on the mound. He is 4-11 this season with a 5.06 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP. In his last start, he pitched for 4.0 innings and he only gave up one earned run. The Kansas City bullpen hasn't been great this season, either. They are allowing the fourth most runs per game. As a team, the Royals are surrendering 5.13 runs per game, which is the 26th most runs given up in the league.
