Kansas City dropped their fourth straight game as they were beaten for the second straight day by the Yankees Saturday afternoon. The Royals entered Sunday last in the AL Central with a 28-72 record, leaving them 24 games behind the Twins for the top spot. They were 26.5 games behind the Blue Jays for the final wild card spot in the American League. On Saturday, Kansas City got two hits each from Bobby Witt Jr. and Edward Olivares (run) though it wasn’t enough to earn a win. Brady Singer didn’t figure in the decision as he threw six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. Carlos Hernandez (0-6) took the loss in relief as he allowed one run on one hit with no walks and one strikeout in one inning of work.

Ryan Yarbrough is on the mound for the Royals as he makes his 13th appearance and sixth start of the season in this contest. He is 2-5 wit h a 5.21 ERA, a 1.263 WHIP, nine walks and 23 strikeouts over 38 innings of work this season. Yarbrough took the loss in his last start, which came against the Tigers at home Wednesday.
