Kansas City Royals vs. Chicago White Sox Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-21-2023

The Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox will take the field on Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field. First pitch is at 2:10 p.m. ET.

Kansas City (14-32 SU and 17-29 RL) has not announced a starting pitcher to replace the recently-injured Brad Keller (shoulder fatigue) for Sunday's game.

Chicago (17-29 SU and 22-24 RL) will start right-hander Lance Lynn. The 36-year-old is 2-5 with a 6.66 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in nine outings this season.

Kansas City took two of three from San Diego before visiting Chicago, but it couldn't keep its momentum in game one, losing 2-0. Can the Royals mount a winning streak to save their 2023 season?

KC averages 3.96 runs (25th) and hits .230 (25th) with a .676 OPS (28th). It's hit 44 long balls (22nd) and stolen 31 bags (14th) this year. The Royals' pitching staff has a 5.20 ERA (29th) and a 1.44 WHIP (27th) with seven quality starts.

Kansas City hasn't officially announced a starter for the series finale.

“We have to see how we get through today and tomorrow to determine how we're going to approach Sunday,” Royals manager Matt Quataro said.

Two likely candidates are right-hander Max Castillo, who was recalled from Triple-A on Friday, and righty Mike Mayers. Castillo worked in relief of Keller on Monday (2.89 ERA in three relief appearances) and Mayers pitched  2.2 innings vs. San Diego on Wednesday.
