Kansas City Royals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-25-2023

Kansas City Royals (5-17) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (12-11)

The 2023 MLB season goes on Tuesday, April 25, with the Kansas City Royals taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks in the interleague battle at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, and the first pitch is set for 9:40 PM ET.

Kansas City and Arizona continue a three-game series, and Monday’s opener has been excluded from the analysis. The Diamondbacks open as -133 home favorites for Tuesday’s middle contest, while the totals are listed at 9.5 runs.

The Kansas City Royals have struggled mightily since Opening Day. They’ve only won one of their previous nine contests while dropping three consecutive three-game sets against the Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, and Los Angeles Angels in the process.

Kansas City owns the third-lowest scoring offense in the majors, tallying just 3.32 runs per game. The Royals are dead last in the MLB in on-base percentage (.268) and second to last in slugging percentage (.338). They’ve only slugged 31 doubles and 17 home runs through their first 22 games and 725 at-bats.

On the defensive side of things, the Royals allow 5.64 runs per contest (27th in the majors) and carry a 5.50 ERA (28th). Brady Singer will take the mound Tuesday at Chase Field, and the 26-year-old right-hander is 1-2 with an ugly 8.14 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in four starts (21 innings pitched) this season.

Singer pitched five innings of a one-run ball in his first start of the season on April 3, and the Royals outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5 at home. Since then, the talented righty has yielded a staggering 18 earned runs on 24 hits across 16 innings of work. Singer met the Diamondbacks once in 2022 and took a victory while surrendering just one run (solo homer) on four hits through seven innings.
