Kansas at Kentucky – 1/28/23 College Basketball Picks and Prediction

The Kansas Jayhawks will travel to Lexington to meet the Kentucky Wildcats in a battle of blue bloods in the Big 12/SEC Challenge from the Rupp Arena on ESPN. Kentucky and Kansas have faced off routinely since 2005 despite being non-conference foes. After facing off in four Champions Classic matchups, this will mark the fifth time they meet in Big 12/SEC Challenge, and the Wildcats lead the all-time series, 24-10.

Kansas improved to 16-1 after defeating Iowa State at home. The Jayhawks outlasted the Cyclones in a contested affair, and came away with the two-point victory. Kansas is scoring 75.9 points per game, while allowing 67.5 ppg, and shooting 46.5% from the floor.

Kansas comes into the Bluegrass skidding, but this is quietly the ‘stress-free’ non-conference matchup they need at the moment. Now facing a streaking Kentucky on the road will be no walk in the park, the hits from the Big 12 were starting to take their toll. A win here would be huge, but it will not be easy. Jalen Wilson has blossomed for KU this season. The junior forward went for a career-high 38 points against KState, then followed it up with a 30-point game versus TCU, and he’s now among Big 12 leaders in scoring (21.4) and rebounding (8.6). Freshman guard Gradey Dick went for a game-high 24 points last time out at Baylor, and he’s now second on the team in scoring at 14.9 ppg. TTU transfer Kevin McCullar Jr. double-doubled against the Bears, and he’s averaging 10.4 ppg and 7.3 rpg.
