The Jacksonville Gamecocks bounced back from a one-sided loss to Liberty the week prior by coming from behind to upend Western Kentucky 20-17 last Tuesday night. Trailing 17-10 at the half and into the fourth quarter, the Gamecocks rallied for the game's final ten points, including a field goal as time expired, to pick up a critical home win to improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in Conference USA.

“We didn't play in the first half in any phase, but we hung around,” said Jax State head coach Rich Rodriguez. “I thought the defense was phenomenal in the second half. Our offense made some key plays when we had to. Our guys are certainly entertaining if nothing else.”

The Gamecocks have had a remarkable run in their first year playing in the FBS with six wins already and looking very much like a bowl team. As usual, on Tuesday night, the Gamecocks were led by their ground attack. Dual-threat quar terback Zion Webb led the way with 172 yards rushing on 28 carries including a rushing score. Webb also went 22-of-39 through the air for an additional 218 yards. In all, the Gamecocks had 292 yards rushing in the game as part of their 484 yards of total offense.

Jacksonville State's defense set the stage for the comeback in the second half but shutting out Western Kentucky and holding them to just 69 total yards in the final two quarters. Overall, Western Kentucky had 339 yards of total offense. Jacksonville State had three tackles for loss including one sack and forced one turnover in the game on a Fred Perry interception.

The Gamecocks hope to pick up their 7th win off of the season on Wednesday night on the road. They come into this matchup 2-1 away from home this season. Jacksonville State has the 67th ranked total offense in the country. They are dominant on the ground, ranking 9th in the country rushing the football. They are just 117th through the air so the Gamecocks are a team that needs to stay ahead of the sticks. They are 79th in the nation in third-down conversions this season and just 120th in red zone offense. Defensively, the Gamecocks are 63rd in the nation in total defense. They are 45th against the run but just 94th against the pass. On third down, the Gamecocks have done a good job at getting off the field, ranking 38th in 3rd down defense. They have struggled to contain team's in the red zone, ranked just 93rd in the nation.

Jacksonville State has been able to protect the football this season. The Gamecocks are 29th in the nation in turnover differential. They haven't hurt themselves with penalties either, ranked 29th in penalties per game.

Injury Report: RB M. Jackson (Undisclosed) is questionable. RB R. Wiggins (Chest) is out.
