A pair of teams from the Sunshine State looking to improve their shot at the postseason take the field in an interconference battle. The Jacksonville Jaguars are on the road as they travel to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday afternoon. Jacksonville was beaten 23-7 at home by Baltimore in their previous game last Sunday, failing to cover the line as a four-point underdog. Tampa Bay dumped Green Bay 34-20 on the road in their previous contest last Sunday, winning outright as a 3.5-point underdog. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Jaguars own a 4-3 advantage but the Buccaneers have won the last two meetings. That includes a 28-11 road victory in the most recent matchup on December 1, 2019.

Jacksonville suffered their third straight loss as they were stymied by Baltimore’s defense and their own lack of ability to finish drives. The Jaguars dropped to 8-6 on the season and stand tied for the top spot in the AFC South with Houston and Indianapolis though they hold the tie-breaker on both teams entering this week. Against Baltimore, Jacksonville trailed 3-0 after one quarter and 10-0 at the half before closing the gap to 10-7 after three quarters. The Jaguars ran out of steam from there, giving up 13 fourth-quarter points to end up on the wrong end of a one-sided score. Jacksonville was outgained 396-333 in total offense, gave up 25 first downs while picking up 16, lost time of possession by a 34:19 to 25:41 margin and turned the ball over twice while forcing only one takeaway in the game.

On the season, Jacksonville is 9th in the league in passing offense with 244 yards per contest and 26th in rushing offense with 98 yards per game. The Jaguars are 10th in the league in scoring offense as they average 22.8 points per contest and stand 21st in scoring defense by allowing 22.4 points per contest. Trevor Lawrence has completed 324 of 492 passes for 3,525 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on the year. He adds 300 yards plus four scores on the ground. C.J. Beathard is 12 of 14 for 77 yards in limited work. Travis Etienne Jr. leads the Jaguars on the ground with 229 carries for 837 yards and nine scores. D’Ernest Johnson (36 carries, 107 yards) and Tank Bigsby (37 carries, 84 yards, two TD) are net in line this season. Tight end Evan Engram leads the team with 88 receptions for 729 yards and three scores on the season. Christian Kirk (57 catches, team-high 787 yards, three TD), Calvin Ridley (60 grabs, 781 yards, five TD), Etienne Jr. (48 receptions, 411 yards, TD) and Zay Jones (28 catches, 274 yards, two TD) are the only other players with more than 175 receiving yards this season. Brandon McManus has hit all 31 extra point attempts and 24 of 30 field goal attempts with a long of 56 this season.

There are plenty of injuries to monitor for Jacksonville as we head toward the weekend. Lawrence (ankle/concussion) and Jones (knee/hamstring) didn’t practice Wednesday. Tight end Brenton Strange (foot), tackle Walker Little (hamstring), guard Ezra Cleveland (knee), safety Andre Cisco (groin) along with cornerbacks Tyson Campbell (quad) and Christian Braswell (hamstring) were all limited. Watch for any information regarding their statuses heading toward kickoff.
