The Iowa Hawkeyes come into the 2023-24 season looking to improve upon a 19-win season a year ago and get back near the top of the Big Ten Conference standings. They have started off the season at 3-1 heading into San Diego. They arrive here after defeating Arkansas State last Friday night at home, 88-74. The Hawkeyes never trailed in the game and the game was tied only briefly, at 36 apiece in the first half, before closing out the first half with a 49-39 lead. Ben Krikke led the way with 25 points and nine rebounds including 15 points in the first half. Dasonte Brown was second on the team with 17 points, Tony Perkins had 11 points and Josh Dix rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points.

“I thought we got good shots. Some that normally go in didn’t go in, it happens. I don’t think much about it. We won the game. We did what we had to do. The three-point shot was not falling so it was ve ry important that we get downhill, that we throw the ball inside. We wanted to get the ball inside to Ben. We went to Owen when he was in there, he did pretty well. I thought our recognition and our ball movement was really good.” Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery said after the game.

Iowa has been led by its offense to start the season. The Hawkeyes are sixth in the nation thus far in points per game. They are 42nd in field goal percentage and 85th in 3-point field goal percentage. The Hawkeyes have been more comfortable in the paint than on the perimeter thus far. They are just 295th in the country in percentage of points via the 3-point shot. Iowa is 66th in the country in rebounding on the season as well. They are 73rd in turnovers per game. The Hawkeyes defense is 218th in the nation in points per game allowed. They are 129th in opponent's field goal percentage and 111th in opponent's three-point field goal percentage. < /p>
