Clark is arguably the best scorer in the history of women's hoops, and she'll have the accolades to prove it in due time. I don't expect that to come Sunday, though, and it feels like her pursuit of the scoring record is inflating this prop total.
Don't get me wrong – it's terrifying to be on the other side of a potential Clark onslaught. The senior sharpshooter needs 39 more points to become the sport's all-time leading scorer, and she's already notched three 40-point performances this season alone. If she really wants to break the record on Sunday, she will.
I'm not so sure that will be her goal, though, with so much of America's focus elsewhere. If you don't think Clark is keenly aware of her impact on the growth of women's basketball, you haven't been paying attention – and the best way to change that is to make history on quite literally any day other than Super Bowl Sunday.
Even her coach, Lisa Bluder, admitted earlier this week that she'd rather her star senior break the record at home against Michigan on Thursday, when Iowa faithful would surely pack Carver-Hawkeye Arena to see their homegrown star make history.
The Hawkeyes are overwhelming favorites to win Sunday (15.5 points), so Clark doesn't need a sensational scoring display to secure the victory. She can save that for Thursday.
