The fifth-seeded Indiana State Sycamores look to take down the fourth-seeded Belmont Bruins Friday afternoon with the winner advancing to Saturday’s semifinals. Indiana State crushed 12th-seeded Evansville 97-58 in their first-round matchup Thursday afternoon, easily covering the line as a 17.5-point favorite. Belmont defeated Northern Iowa 83-75 on the road in their regular season finale Sunday afternoon, covering the line as a three-point favorite, in their previous contest. In the all-time series between the schools, the Bruins own a 2-1 edge. That includes a narrow 89-88 home win in the lone matchup between the teams this season on February 22.

Indiana State had little problem dispatching 12th-seeded Evansville in the first round of the MVC Tournament and now look to make up for that one-point defeat to Belmont last month. The Sycamores ran their record to 21-11 on the season with the triumph. Against Evansville, Indiana State scored the first seven points of the game and never looked back. The Sycamores led 46-28 at the half and never let the Purple Aces closer than that in the second half while leading by as many as 39. Indiana State shot a blistering 58.5% from the field, including 13 of 30 from three-point range, and won the rebounding battle 43-27. Robbie Avila led the Sycamores with 21 points in the victory.
