Illinois at Penn State Prediction – Basketball Picks 2/14/23

The Penn State Nittany Lions will host the Illinois Fighting Illini in Big Ten action from the Jordan Center on ESPNU. Illinois leads the all-time series, 32-19, but Penn State did win the last meeting back in December.

Illinois improved to 17-7 after beating Rutgers in Champaign. The Fighting Illini used a strong second half to send the Scarlet Knights back to Jersey with a nine-point loss, 69-60. Illinois is scoring 74.9 points per game, while allowing 64.1 ppg, and shooting 45.6% from the floor.

Illinois has been sharp since the turn of the year, winning eight of their last ten games. The Fighting Illini are 8-5 in Big Ten play, with a 3-3 road record. Former Texas Tech guard Terrence Shannon Jr. has been strong in the lead role this season, and after going for just four points in the first meeting with PSU, look for him to assert himself in this contest. Shannon Jr. leads the team in scoring (16.9), while grabbing 5.1 rpg. Baylor transfer Matthew Mayer scored a team-high 21 points against Iowa last week, and he’s now up to 11.8 ppg. Veteran forward Coleman Hawkins leads the team in rebounding (6.5), while scoring 9.7 ppg after scoring a team-high 18 points in the win over Rutgers last time out.
