The Illinois Fighting Illini and Nebraska Cornhuskers face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. When these two teams faced off in 2021 it was Illinois that secured the 30-22 victory.
Illinois comes into this game with a 6-1 record overall and in the last game against Minnesota they won 26-14. Tommy Devito had a big game completing 25 of his 32 passes for 252 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. Chase Brown also rushed 41 times for 180 yards. Illinois is averaging 26 points while their defense is giving up 8.86 points per game. The defense is ranked 1st in the league, and if they are going to win the Big Ten West, it’s going to be the defense that brings them.
On the other side of this matchup is Nebraska who sits with a 3-4 record overall and they are coming off a loss in the last game. The offense scored 37 points against Purdue, but the defense gave up 43 points. Casey Thompson completed 16 of his 29 passes for 354 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. The running game wasn’t great in the last game, and that will need to be improved upon here. Nebraska is averaging 29.7 points while their defense is giving up 31.3 points per game. In this game, Nebraska is going to need to find a way to get the offense going here.
