How Much Did MetLife Stadium Cost to Build?

MetLife Stadium cost $1.6 billion when it was finally completed in 2010. At the time, it was the most expensive stadium anywhere in the United States.

That $1.6 billion is closer to $2 billion in modern purchasing power when accounting for inflation.'

MetLife is unique for several reasons. Until the Chargers moved to Los Angeles, it was the only stadium to house multiple franchises – the Jets and the Giants.'

Despite the focus on New York teams, the stadium is actually west of the city, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. As any tri-state resident can tell you, it's difficult to find enough empty space for a new, modern stadium complex anywhere near the five boroughs.'
