They continued to make waves in the AFC Divisional round, overcoming a 21-6 halftime deficit to beat the Miami Dolphins 22-21. In the AFC Championship, they once again came from behind. This time, they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 17-13 to earn their spot in Super Bowl XXIX.
Ultimately, the Chargers’ Cinderella story stopped there. The heavyweight 49ers proved too much to handle, and San Francisco walked away with the victory, 49-26. The Chargers have not returned to the Super Bowl since.
