Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 7-22-2022

The Houston Astros (60-32, 47-43 RL, 32-55-3 O/U) take on the Seattle Mariners (51-42, 47-44 RL, 42-47-2 O/U) in the first of a three-game showdown on Friday evening. The Astros will send out Jose Urquidy to begin the series. The Mariners will have veteran Marco Gonzales on the hill targeting his sixth victory. The season series is even at 6-6.

The Astros will have Jose Urquidy on the mound for the 18th time of the season. Urquidy was decent in his latest effort, conceding three runs in 6.1 innings against the Athletics, and was tagged with the loss to fall to 8-4. The young right-hander features a strong 3.10 ERA in his three outings this month and has posted a 4.09 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP in 94.2 innings of action on the season. Urquidy has struggled against the Mariners this season, allowing 17 runs (15 earned) in three meetings, and is 1-3 with a poor 6.25 ERA in 31.2 career innings against the rivals.

The Astros are stellar on the road where they are 13 games above the .500 mark. They are 7-3 in their last ten road bouts. It’s a busy schedule for Houston. They played a doubleheader against the Yankees on Thursday and now head out on a seven-game road trip. 

Kyle Tucker has been kept in check by the Mariners this season, hitting .265 with only three RBIs against the rivals. Overall, the 25-year-old slugger is having an outstanding season, bashing 18 homers with 62 RBIs and an .819 OPS. Tucker has 11 RBIs on the month. 

Houston is averaging 4.43 runs on the season, ranking them 14th overall. The pitching staff features a 2.98 team ERA, tabbing them second in the big leagues.
