Houston improved to 7-0 against Oakland this season as they managed to claw out a win in the opening game of this series Thursday night. The Astros entered Friday night 54-43 on the season and stood second in the AL West, four games behind the Rangers for the top spot in the division. They held the final wild card spot in the AL playoff picture though they were tied with Toronto, who held the second spot. On Thursday night, Houston finished with five hits with no player having more than one. Kyle Tucker hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to give the Astros the lead while Alex Bregman hit his 14th homer of the season in the ninth inning to add an insurance marker. J.P. France (5-3) earned the win as he threw seven innings, allowing one run on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Ryan Pressly worked the ninth, allowing no runs on no hits with no walks and one strikeout, for his 22nd save.

Cristian Javier is on the mound for his 19th start of the season for the Astros in this contest. He comes in 7-1 with a 4.39 ERA, a 1.215 WHIP, 27 walks and 89 strikeouts over 96.1 innings of work on the year. Javier didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, which came Sunday on the road against the Angels.
