Houston Astros vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-24-2023

Houston Astros (28-19) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (25-22)

The 2023 MLB season continues Wednesday, May 24, with the Houston Astros taking on the Milwaukee Brewers in the interleague battle at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the first pitch is set for 1:10 PM ET.

Houston and Milwaukee wrap up a three-game series. The Astros routed the Brewers 12-2 in Monday’s opener, while Tuesday’s clash has been excluded from the analysis. The Brewers open as slight moneyline favorites for Wednesday’s closer, and the totals sit at 9.5 runs.

The Houston Astros extended their winning streak to eight games following Monday’s dismantling of the Brew Crew. Cristian Javier tossed six frames of a one-run ball, while Yordan Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBI.

Alvarez has 16 hits, five dingers, and 14 RBI in his last 45 at-bats. The Astros are slashing .276/.352/.451 with 14 homers and 26 extra-base hits over the last 15 days and 399 at-bats, while their bullpen has amassed a shiny 2.04 ERA, 2.73 FIP, and 10.2 K/9 across 39.2 innings of work in that span.

Brandon Bielak will get the starting call Wednesday, and the 27-year-old right-hander is 1-1 with a 2.89 ERA, 1.77 WHIP, and 19/8 K/BB ratio in three starts and one relief appearance (18.2 innings pitched) this season. Bielak has allowed one earned run in each of his previous two starts. Last Friday, he fanned nine across five frames in a 5-1 victory to the hapless Oakland Athletics, giving up a run on five hits and three walks.
