Hawks-Pacers Assigned Highest Total In Modern NBA History

On Tuesday night, when the 7-5 Indiana Pacers and the 6-6 Atlanta Hawks take the court, a new NBA record will almost certainly be set.

As of noon Eastern, the total for the game was at 252.5 points at PointsBet, a Fanatics Experience; 252 at DraftKings; and 251.5 on other betting apps. If it holds above 250, this would be the highest NBA over/under in recent history, if not ever.

KillerSports.com tracks this type of information, and the site claims the total is the highest in its database. Capt. Jack Andrews of Unabated.com also took a look under the hood, and it would appear the previous record was 250, set two times: First, on May 8, 2021, when the Wizards topped the same Pacers, 133-132, and again last March 23, when the (sensing a trend here?) Pacers lost to these same Hawks, 143-130.

What is driving the high number? According to NBA.com, the Pacers have the highest offensive net rating so far this year at 120.7, while the Hawks are 6th at 117.'
