Has Tennessee Ever Won a National Championship?

The Tennessee Volunteers have been a constant March Madness presence, appearing in each of the last five NCAA Tournaments. They've made it to the Sweet 16 this year, leaving Tennessee supporters wondering just how far Rick Barnes' team can go.

The Volunteers aren't exactly known for their deep runs in March, though. That's why it isn't shocking to see college basketball enthusiasts wondering if they can go all the way.

If it does, would this be the first time that Tennessee fans celebrate a national championship victory?

Tennessee National Championship History

Tennessee has never won an NCAA men's basketball National Championship. The furthest they've ever made it was to the 2010 NCAA Tournament's Elite 8, where they were eliminated by No. 5 Michigan State.

This year also marks the first time that the Volunteers have made it to the Sweet 16 since 2019. As the South Region's No. 2 seed that year, Tennessee was upset by No. 3 Purdue in a 99-94 shootout.

Considering how Tennessee hasn't advanced past the Sweet 16 in nearly 13 years, it remains to be seen if the Vols have what it takes to win the first national title in program history.
