Has a 11-Win NFL Team Missed the Playoffs?

Since the NFL changed to a 16-game schedule in 1978, two teams missed the postseason after finishing with 11 regular season wins.

The 1985 Denver Broncos ended with an 11-5 record, but missed the playoffs due to tiebreakers with other 11-5 squads (New York Jets and New England Patriots). The Cleveland Browns also clinched a playoff spot during this season with an 8-8 record after winning the AFC Central title.

The 2008 Patriots also posted an 11-5 record and fell short of the postseason. Similar to the 1985 Browns, the 2008 San Diego Chargers won the AFC West with an 8-8 record and got into the playoffs over New England.

The Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens also were 11-5, but each had the conference record tiebreaker over New England.
