Green Bay Packers vs. San Francisco 49ers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-12-2022

The Green Bay Packers (13-4, 12-5 ATS, 8-9 O/U) head on the road to battle the San Francisco 49ers (10-7, 9-8 RL, 8-9 O/U) in week one preseason action on Friday night. The Packers went 13-4 last year and 0-3 in preseason action. The 49ers posted a 10-7 record and a 2-1 record in the preseason. These foes met in last year's playoff in a game SF won 13-10.

The Green Bay Packers are an interesting team to watch in the preseason as they are monitoring their backup QB situation. You won’t see Aaron Rodgers who signed the big four-year deal in the offseason, especially considering preseason is only three games.

This year’s preseason is a great opportunity for Jordan Love, who was the Packers’ first-round pick out of Utah State in 2020. The 23-year-old completed 58% of his passes for 411 yards with a 2:3 TD to INT ratio in limited regular season action last year. Love accrued 271 passing yards and a 1:1 TD to INT ratio in two preseason games in 2021. The Packers also have Danny Etling as their third-string QB. Etling has zero NFL regular game experience.

Green Bay’s receiving core is definitely a bit of a question mark after DaVante Adams departed. They are relying on Sammy Watkins and Allen Lazard. They will see little if any, action in this one. Aaron Jones is the Packers' #1 RB and A.J. Dillon is the expected #2. Dillon had a stellar 2021 season, collecting 803 rushing yards on an average of 4.3 yards per carry. 3rd string RB Kylin Hill is on the PUP list and won't play. The Packers used their top draft picks on defense including linebacker Quay Walker. The team has solid cornerbacks led by Jaire Alexander.

The Packers averaged 26.5 points last year, ranking them 10th overall. They allowed an average of 21.8 points, placing them 14th in the league.
