The stories of Matt LaFleur's three seasons as Green Bay's coach have been eerily similar — 13 regular season wins and a crushing playoff defeat before the Super Bowl. They Packers made two straight NFC Championship appearances before flaming out in the Divisional Round in an inexcusable loss at home to the 49ers. Aaron Rodgers finally put his aside his will-he-or-won't-he drama to re-sign with the team this offseason. Shortly thereafter, top receiving target Davante Adams demanded a trade and was shipped to Las Vegas. Heading into 2 022, the team faces more questions this season than it has in the past several years. Will Rodgers have enough competent receivers to catch his deadly accurate passes? Can he play at the MVP level he's shown the last two seasons? Is there realistically any team in the NFC North that can challenge a healthy Packers team?
The schedule seems tricky enough to think that Green Bay won't rech the 13-win plateau for a fourth straight regular season. A Week 1 road test against the Vikings presents a stern challenge from the start and after a home layup against the rebuilding Bears, Rodgers and Tom Brady meet again — though in recent years, the Packers have struggled in the state of Florida. Green Bay plays its first game overseas in Week Five and surprisingly doesn't get a bye week afterwards. Three straight road games from Weeks 7-9, including a potential Super Bowl preview in Buffalo, will test the team's mettle. While not having a bye week until Week 14 usually is disadvantageous, it might be the necessary formula for Green Bay to rest and regroup before facing the defending Super Bowl champion LA Rams at home and a Christmas Day game in Miami.
Not surprisingly, oddsmakers set the Packers' win total at 11, which seems on the mark. They are overwhelming favorites once again to capture the NFC North and considering the NFC seems to be the weaker conference on paper, it's not a stretch to say the Packers should be among the top three conference title favorites in 2022. Considering Rodgers' poor history in NFC Championship Games (1-4), +450 might be too short of a price to bet this season. The most savvy Packers bet might be to play them in Super Bowl matchups vs. a handful of AFC teams.
