Gonzaga comes into this matchup with Pepperdine in a place the team is not quite familiar with; second place in the WCC. The Zags have won nine straight regular-season crowns in the WCC and 22 out of 23 since 2001. As of now, the Zags trail St. Mary's by one game in the standings and will need to maintain that spot heading into the season finale against the Gaels in order to try and capture yet another regular-season WCC crown. On Thursday night, Gonzaga pounded Loyola Marymount 108-65 for the team's third straight win. Julian Strawther led the way with 28 points as part of six Bulldogs in double figures for the game. The win avenged an earlier loss to Loyola at home.

“Our defense was good, probably as good as we've been all year,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said. “We kept our intensity, even in the second half. It is something we can really draw on moving forward.”

The Zags, particularly their offense, seem to be rounding into form at the best time with the regular season drawing to a close. The team ranks first in the WCC in scoring offense. In addition, they are first in field goal percentage and second in 3pt field goal percentage in the conference. Gonzaga is highly efficient as well, ranking second in the WCC in fewest turnovers per game. Defensively, Gonzaga has the sixth ranked scoring defense in the WCC. The Zags are also sixth in opponent's field goal percentage and fourth in three-point defense. Finally, the Zags are third in the conference in total rebounds.
