Marquette fell 58-55 to Mississippi State in their semifinal matchup: the game was a push with the spread as the Golden Eagles were three-point underdogs. The Golden Eagles own a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series between the programs and have won the last three meetings. That includes a 72-70 win at the HP Field House in Orlando on November 27, 2014 in the most recent matchup.

Georgia Tech battled back from a slow start but couldn’t close the game out against Utah as they fell in the semifinals Monday night. The Yellow Jackets suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 3-1 on the year. Against Utah, Georgia Tech didn’t score for the first nearly six minutes in the contest. The Yellow Jackets trailed 23-4 midway through the first half but climbed back to within eight at the half. Georgia Tech opened the second half with a 20-8 run to take a 48-44 lead with 10:35 to play and still led 57-54 with 7:22 to go before things slipped away. The Yellow Jackets gave up a 7-0 run to trail 61-57 with 4:29 to go and never got even again. Georgia Tech shot 34.8% from the field, including five of 21 from beyond the arc, though they lost the rebounding battle 45-35 and clanked nine of their 20 free throw attempts in the game. Deivon Smith led the Yellow Jackets with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists in the loss.
