The Georgia State Panthers became bowl-eligible with their sixth victory of the season three weeks ago but things have gone sideways since then. On Saturday afternoon, the Panthers were blown out at home by App State, 42-14. The loss was the Panthers' third straight loss and drops them to 6-4 with just two games remaining in the regular season.

“App State came out strong and really were hitting on all cylinders. We controlled the line of scrimmage early and had an opportunity to take the ball down the score but we turned it over,” head coach Shawn Elliott said. “We didn't have what it took it today. This game humbles us, and that football right there defeated us. They were the better team today.

“Right now we're searching for some answers,” Elliott continued. “We've lost three straight football games to good football teams, but we haven't executed like we did earlier in the s eason. We've got to find our rhythm, our execution has to be much better and our coaching has to be much better.”

Running back Marcus Carroll had a strong night in the blowout loss. Caroll ran for 113 yards on a school record-tying 34 carries. The 100+ yard afternoon was the 9th 100-yard game of his career, also a school-record. Quarterback Darren Grainger threw two touchdown passes in the game and tied a school-record with 51 touchdowns. In all, Georgia State had just 260 yards of total offense.

The Panthers defense forced two turnovers on the day including an interception by Jeremiah Johnson. Those were the highlights for a defense that gave up over 500 yards of total offense to App State, allowing over 200 yards on both the ground and through the air.

The Panthers hope to stop their skid this week but it will be a tall order against LSU at legendary Tiger Stadium. The Panthers will be led by a ground attack that ranks 37th in the nation. Thanks to that attack, the Panthers are 20th in the nation on third down offensively. The Georgia State defense ranks just 102nd in the nation in total defense. They are also just 121st against the pass this season. Georgia State has struggled to get off the field defensively, ranking 110th in the nation.

Georgia State is slightly above average in protecting the football this year. The Panthers are 51st in the country in turnover differential. They are roughly in the same position with penalties, ranked 56th in the nation in penalties per game.

Key Injuries: TE K. Byrd (undisclosed) and WR J. Credle (undisclosed) are out.
