The Georgia State Panthers (2-4, 2-4 ATS, 3-3 O/U) battle the Appalachian State Mountaineers (3-3, 2-4 ATS, 4-2 O/U) in a Sun Belt showdown on Wednesday evening. The Panthers earned a win against Georgia Southern in their previous action before enjoying their bye last week. The Mountaineers are also fresh off a bye week. They lost to Texas State in their latest clash. Appalachian State posted a 45-16 road win against Georgia State last season.

The Georgia State Panthers are targeting a third consecutive victory. It was a disastrous opening month to the season for GSU, losing their first four games due to poor defensive play. To their defense, it was a challenging schedule against a few power conference foes. They earned their first win of the season against Army and were 2.5-point favorites in a convincing 41-33 home win against Georgia Southern on October 8th. They have covered the spread in back-to-back games.

Darren Grainger doesn’t post big numbers on a run-heavy offense. The senior QB has accrued less than 190 passing yards in two straight performances and has collected 1214 passing yards along with a 12:5 TD to INT ratio and has added 303 yards on the ground. GSU relies on the running game and for good reason. They feature a few potent running backs led by Tucker Gregg. The senior RB has now eclipsed 100 yards in three out o f his last four games and has logged 460 rushing yards. Jamyest Williams is just behind with 403 yards.

GSU also has one of the better WRs in the conference in Jamari Thrash. The junior brought in 75 yards in the recent win and leads the squad with 503 yards. The GSU offense is their top strength and has scored 31 and 41 points respectively in their last two games.

The Panthers' defense has been exploited. They had the task of defending South Carolina of the SEC and North Carolina of the ACC which has made some of their numbers look worse than they are. The pass defense is 97th, and they have a weak rush defense that is being exposed, pegging 106th overall. Georgia State is scoring an average of 29.8 points, landing them 65th. They are conceding an average of 33.3 points, tabbing them 115th in the FBS.
