Georgia Southern vs. Nebraska Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-10-2022

This Saturday the (1-0) Georgia Southern Eagles and the (1-1) Nebraska Cornhuskers will match up in week two of the 2022 college football season. Kick-off will be at 7:30 PM EST inside Memorial Stadium (Lincoln, NE). This will be the third game of the season for Nebraska, but only the second for the Eagles. Both teams picked up a win last week.

The Georgia Southern Eagles are coming into this one after defeating Morgan State, 59-7. That game was never close, as the Eagles continued to drive up and down the field. Their passing attack carried them through week 1.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers picked up their first win of the season last week, as they took down the University of North Dakota, 38-17. The Cornhuskers racked up 437 total yards of offense, as they were moving the ball on the ground for the majority of that game.

The Georgia Southern Eagles have now brought in Clay Helton as their new head coach after he couldn't get the job done at USC. He will now be looking to turn the Eagle's program around. According to Sports Reference, the Eagles scored 20.2 PPG  in 2021 and they only averaged 342 yards of total offense per game. In 2021, they leaned on the run, as they ran for almost 194 yards per game. But, in week 1, the Eagles were slinging the ball around the yard. Last week, they finished with 367 passing yards and 137 rushing yards. They were efficiently moving the ball up and down the field, as Morgan State couldn't slow them down. They also brought back eight starters on offense, as they should have more experience under their belt. Kyle Vantrease will be getting the start in this one after the 6-year quarterback looked solid last week. He finished the game with 367 passing yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. He managed the game and took his shots when they were there. I would also watch for Khaleb Hood, as he finished last season with 35 catches. He also had six catches for 88 yards and a touchdown in week 1.

On defense, the Eagles struggled in 2021. They gave up 31.4 points per game and they also allowed 441 yards of total offense each game. This was the weakest part of their team in 2021, as their defense was ranked 110 in the country. They started a bunch of young players, which hurt them last season, but should help now. Their leading tackler, Anthony Wilson, is back this season. He had 78 tackles, as he continued to fly around the field in 2021. The defense looked solid against Morgan State, though. They only gave up seven points and 250 yards of total offense. Their secondary looked incredible, as they only allowed 78 passing yards. They made the Morgan State offense one-dimensional and even forced four turnovers. The Georgia Southern defense finished week 1 with three in terceptions and one fumble recovery. They will need to win the turnover battle in this one, as well.
