The Georgia Southern Eagles (3-2, 4-1 ATS, 2-3 O/U) clash with the Georgia State Panthers (1-4, 1-4 ATS, 2-3 O/U) in a Sun Belt showdown on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles almost earned the upset win in a narrow road loss against Coastal Carolina. The Panthers logged a convincing road win against Army in their previous bout. Georgia State posted a 21-14 road win in the meeting against Georgia Southern last season.
The Georgia Southern Eagles are seeking their first conference victory. The squad won their first two games of the season including a stunning 45-42 upset road win against Nebraska of the Big Ten. They lost to UAB and last week, the squad was labeled as 10-point dogs in a 34-30 road loss to an undefeated Coastal Carolina squad. The Eagles have been reliable, covering in four of five games.
Kyle Vantrease continues to excel. The senior QB has collected at least 280 passing yards in all but one game including 409 yards in the win at Nebraska. Vantrease has 1574 passing yards accompanied by a 10:7 TD to INT ratio. The Eagles have one of the better RBs in the conference in Jalen White. The junior RB has surpassed 100 yards in two out of his last three games and has accrued 450 rushing yards on 6.1 yards per carry.

The receiving unit is stacked. GA Southern has two players with 300 receiving yards highlighted by Derwin Burgess Jr. The sophomore WR has recorded a remarkable 401 receiving yards. He should continue his dominance against a weak pass defense in this game. The offense has reached 30 points in four of their five games.
The Eagles' defense is a work in progress. They surrendered nearly 500 yards last week and continue to be exposed on the ground. The pass defense is 82nd while the rush defense is pegged 123rd. Georgia Southern is posting an average of 37.8 points, good for 26th. The defense is squandering an average of 28.2 points, positioning them 85th in the FBS.
