Georgetown vs. Texas Tech Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 11-30-2022

The non-conference schedule hasn't gone as well as either the Georgetown Hoyas (4-3) or Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-2) would have liked. In TCU's defense, they've played the 26th hardest schedule in the country so far with their losses coming to then #10 Creighton 76-65 and current #25 Ohio State 80-73 both on a neutral court at the Maui Invitational. Wednesday's game is the Hoyas' first true road tilt of the season, and they haven't shot well even with five home contests and two neutral site tilts on the year. The Red Raiders haven't played since their last game in Maui a week ago, so this is a fresh defense that may resemble the sharks in the water from the Hawaii shoreline – because Georgetown's offense is definitely bleeding in the bottom half in the country in field goal percentage and points/game.

Texas Tech lost two games last week, but that's not entirely unexpected against a top 10 team in Creighton and a now-ranked team in Ohio State. Georgetown did the Thanksgiving holiday tournament circuit recently as well, but they lost 84-66 to Loyola-Marymount in the Jamaica Classic and then squeaked by La Salle 69-62.

The showing in the Jamaica Classic on a neutral court can be forgiven for the Hoyas, and they did cover the number against La Salle as just a -3.5 favorite. Before leaving for the islands Georgetown got rolled 75-63 at home against Northwestern and things haven't gotten better since returning, with the Hoyas losing 74-70 against American University last Wednesday. That's the first time Georgetown has lost the cross-city rivalry game to American in 40 years.

It's just hard to see how the Hoyas can contend on Wednesday against a battle-tested Texas Tech team on the road. Georgetown is 96th in the country in points scored (76.9) and their 44.6% shooting from the field ranks 183rd. Mind you these numbers have been put up playing all games either at home or on a neutral court.
