The George Washington Colonials will take on the Pepperdine Waves in second round action as part of the loser's bracket in the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday night. George Washington lost a heartbreak in their opener to Washington State, 66-64. Pepperdine fell to host Hawaii in the nightcap, 76-70. Game time for this matchup is set for 10:00pm EST.

The George Washington Colonials were just three seconds away from an opening round upset win over the Washington State Cougars on Thursday night. Unfortunately, a three-point field goal from the Cougars turned a 64-63 lead into a 66-64 loss. The game was back and forth throughout with Washington State holding a two-point lead at halftime before the two teams battled back and forth in the second half. George Washington had five players in double figures for the game, led by Brendan Adams 17 points. The Colonials shot 49% from the field but hit just 3-of-18 from 3pt range and were out-rebounded 39-26 in the gut-wrenching loss. George Washington falls to 6-5 on the season with the loss.

George Washington did many thing well in the opener, including shooting well from inside the arc and limiting turnovers with just nine in the game. They struggled, however, to rebound the basketball and hit shots beyond the arc. For the season, GW is just 166th in the country in 3pt field goal percentage and 182nd in rebounding. They will attempt to improve upon those two areas as they get set to battle Pepperdine on Friday night.
