Let's break down each of these plays.
NFL Preseason: Detroit Lions ML (-140) over Atlanta Falcons, 6:00 pm ET
Both of these teams were hopeless in the preseason last year, each going 0-3. However, Detroit lost by fewer than 6 points per game on average whereas Atlanta lost by more than 16 per outing. The Falcons have traditionally been terrible in the preseason (1-15 in their last 16 contests dating back to 2017) and there is a good chance such futility continues at least through this opener. I would looks lean toward the Lions anyway, but the way they have looked at training camp in recent days has me even more encouraged. For that reason, go with Detroit to win and don't bother taking the points.
