The Florida Panthers face the Winnipeg Jets with both teams looking to improve from rocky starts to the season. The Panthers went to the Stanley Cup Final last season but they lost their first game of the season 2-0. The Jets lost their first game 5-3 and after barely reaching the playoff a season ago, they hope that they don't fall apart this year. The Panthers look to rebound in the Atlantic Division while the Jets look to improve in the Central Division and the upcoming game looks to be a good one.

The Panthers averaged 3.51 goals per game last season but in their first game of the season, the offense fell flat in a shutout loss. The hope is that Matthew Tkachuk, Aleksander Barkov, and Carter Verhaeghe can step up as they combined for 105 goals and 155 assists last season and the trio generated 16 shots on the goal in the opening game.

The offense hopes to bounce back but the defense was a bright spot, allowing only two goals in the first game. Gustav Forsling and Oliver Ekman-Larsson led the top pairing with over 23:00 ice time, two blocked shots, and a hit but the rest of the unit also stepped up with Dmitry Kulikov, Niko Mikkola, and Joshua Mahura creating turnovers and limiting passing lanes in the defensive zone to force tough angle shots. Moreover, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky stepped up in the first game of the season, saving 19 of the 21 shots he faced.
