The Florida Panthers face the Detroit Red Wings with both teams looking to build off of strong starts to the season. The Panthers have a 4-3-1 record and are in the middle of the Atlantic Division while the Red Wings are 6-3-1 and following a 4-3 overtime win, they are in second place in the Atlantic Division. The Panthers are having a great season but hope their offense can improve, scoring only 2.75 goals per game. Aleksander Barkov, Sam Reinhart, and Evan Rodrigues have scored 12 goals and 15 assists but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only five skaters have two goals or more and opposing defenses can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has stepped up, allowing only 2.88 goals per game with only six goals in the last three games. Gustav Forsling and Dmitry Kulikov have combined for 1.4 defensive point shares and 23 blocked shots to lead the top two pairings while Niko Mikkola and Oliver Ekman-Larsson have stepped up as well to round out the unit. Additionally, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has stepped up with a .903 save percentage and a 2.87 goals-against average on 206 shots.
