The Florida A&M Rattlers visit Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on Saturday to play the North Carolina Tar Heels in the opening game of the 2022 college football regular season for both teams. Florida A&M is expected to have an above average offense this season with Rasean McKay at quarterback. McKay's top target will be wide receiver Xavier Smith.'
On defense, the Rattlers will be led by linebacker Isaiah Land, who last season was the winner of the Buck Buchanan award as the National Defensive Player of the Year. Land was the leader in the country in sacks with 19.0 and tackles for a loss with 25.5. Besides Land, defensive back Javan Morgan has also been selected for the preseason All-SWAC team.
North Carolina finished last season 6-7 overall and 3-5 in the ACC. Quarterback Sam Howell has moved on to the NFL. North Carolina has not announced who will be the starting quarterback as Jacolby Criswell, Drake May and freshman Conner Harrell all have a shot. However, regardless of who is passing the ball North Carolina will have one of the best wide receivers in the country in Josh Downs, who has joined two other top receivers from last season.
The offensive line has been overhauled to provide North Carolina with better pass protection and to open up holes for the running game. British Brooks scored four touchdowns last season and averaged more than nine yards per carry and will be the lead running back for the Tar Heels on Saturday. DJ Jones will also see plenty of action for North Carolina at running back. Last season the defense was one of the nation's worst allowing 32 points and 418 yards per game and has been overhauled through transfers and new recruits.'
