Penn State squeaked by Purdue in a Thursday Week 1 road opener. The Nittany Lions then drubbed Ohio 46-10 on Saturday. A PSU defense that has held opponents under 5.0 yards per play 4 of the last 5 years has allowed just 4.69 YPP through 2 games (45th FBS).
Auburn has also been solid on defense. Albeit against an easy slate so far, the Tigers have yielded just 4.41 YPP (34th). Auburn did have trouble, however, in its 24-16 Saturday win over a San Jose State squad that edged FCS Portland State in Week 1. The Tigers committed 9 penalties and were a minus-2 in turnovers while cranking out just 378 total yards.
