FanDuel Nears $100 Million For January Revenue In New York

FanDuel was left needing $152,000 in revenue in the final three days of January to reach $100 million for the month in New York after the state’s gaming commission reported that the mobile sports betting juggernaut collected $21.4 million in winnings for the week ending Jan. 28 late Friday.

FanDuel’s haul was part of another big week for the nine digital operators, whose combined $44.4 million in revenue ranked 10th highest out of 108 weeks. It was the second consecutive week in which revenue landed in the top 10, though it was 6.7% lower than the $47.5 million claimed for the week ending Jan. 21.

The group of nine had a collective hold of 10.5%, with sportsbooks getting desired results in both NFL conference championship games. In the NFC, the underdog Detroit Lions gave the house the coveted middle ground by covering in their 34-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. A Lions outright win would have been a huge liability, and something that was in play as Detroit raced to a 24-7 halftime lead before San Francisco rallied.

The same held true for the house in the AFC title game, with the preferred outcome being a low-scoring win by the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs delivered with a 17-10 upset of the Baltimore Ravens on the road to reach the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five seasons as the house cleaned up with in-game wagers made in both halves.
