The Evansville Purple Aces (1-2, 2-1 ATS, 2-1 O/U) take on the SMU Mustangs (1-2, 0-3 ATS, 1-2 O/U) in an inter-conference bout on Saturday afternoon. The Purple Aces were charged with an ugly home loss by SE Missouri State on Wednesday. The Mustangs were also hit with a home defeat, losing agaisnt New Mexico in their previous action. These foes last met in 2019 in a game SMU won by a 59-57 score.

The Evansville Purple Aces are looking to avoid a third straight defeat. Evansville opened the season with a solid 78-74 road win against Miami Ohio but has struggled in the last few. They were huge 24-point dogs in an 85-63 road loss against Saint Louis and were two-point favorites in a disappointing 67-61 home defeat against SE Missouri State on Wednesday. The Purple Aces have covered the spread in two of their three games. 

Kenny Strawbridge Jr. has been a bright spot. The senior guard has eclipsed 20 points in two of three clashes on the season including 22 in Wednesday’s defeat and is now averaging 17.7 PPG. Yacine Toumi is consistently producing so far, netting at least 13 points in all three games. The junior forward has recorded one double-double and has logged 14 PPG accompanied by 6.7 RPG. Marvin Coleman II has shot below 38% in all t hree games. The senior guard enters with an average of 8 PPG and 7.3 RPG.

The Purple Aces are pegged 325th in all of DI in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and are in yet another rebuilding season. Evansville has especially struggled offensively in three games. They are shooting an abysmal 37% and are averaging 68 points, ranking them 273rd.  They have not looked good defensively either, squandering an average of 74.7 points, placing them at 276th.
