Edmonton Oilers vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-11-2023

Once Upon A Time In Las Vegas – Super Bowl

A pair of NHL teams from north of the border take the ice in search of two points in the capital city of Canada. The Edmonton Oilers are on the road as they travel eastward to face the Ottawa Senators Saturday afternoon. Edmonton was in action Thursday night as they battled the Flyers in the City of Brotherly Love: they fell short 2-1 in a shootout in a defensive struggle. Ottawa hasn’t played since defeating Montreal 5-4 on the road in the second game of a home-and-home set January 31. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Oilers own a commanding 8-1-1 advantage but the Senators have taken the last two meetings. That includes a 3-2 overtime win at home in the most recent meeting on January 31, 2022.

Edmonton was in action on the road as they took on the Flyers to continue their road swing east Thursday night. The Oilers entered Friday 29-18-5 and were tied for second in the Pacific Division, three points behind Vegas for the top spot. Edmonton comes into this one 2nd in the league in goals per game as they average 3.71 goals per contest. The Oilers stand 19th in goals against as they allow 3.15 goals per night. Edmonton stands 1st in power play success as they cash in 31.8% of their chances with the man advantage on the year. The Oilers are tied for 22nd in penalty killing as they successfully get through 76.1% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Philadelphia, Edmonton’s offense never got into gear and that, coupled with a lack of power play opportunities, doomed them to defeat. In the opening period, the Oilers were outshot by a 10-7 margin and they trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play. The second period saw Edmonton outshot by a 12-11 margin but they tallied the lone goal of the stanza to knot things up at the second intermission. Evander Kane tied the game with his eighth goal of the season at the 1:56 mark off assists from Connor McDavid and Mattias Janmark. The third period saw Edmonton with a 12-11 edge in shots on goal with neither team lighting the lamp, keeping things level at the end of regulation. In overtime, Edmonton owned a 5-3 shot advantage but neither team scored, necessitating a shootout. During the shootout, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored for the Oilers while McDavid and Draisaitl came up empty. Meanwhile, the Flyers got goals from Travis Konecny and James van Riemsdyk to win it. Stuart Skinner made 35 saves for Edmonton, who was outshot 36-35, in the loss. He’s expected to get the start in goal for this contest as well.
