The Edmonton Oilers face the Boston Bruins with both teams heading in opposite directions to begin the season. The Oilers have a 5-10-1 record and have the second-worst record in the Pacific Division. The Panthers have an 11-5-1 record and with seven wins in their last 10 games, they have the second-best record in the Atlantic Division. The Oilers look to climb out of the bottom of the Western Conference while the Panthers look to leap into first place in the Atlantic Division and the upcoming game should be a great one.

The Oilers have struggled on offense all season, scoring only 2.94 goals per game but recently, the unit has turned things around, scoring 16 goals in the last four games. Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, and Evander Kane have scored 21 goals and 30 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Connor McDavid, Ryan-Nugent Hopkins, and Warren Foegele have combined for 10 goals and 23 assists while defenseman Evan Bouchard has added four goals and 12 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great recently but the defense has let the Oilers down, allowing 3.81 goals per game including nine goals in the last two games. Cody Ceci and Darnell Nurse have combined for 1.6 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Stuart Skinner has struggled wit h a .873 save percentage and a 3.39 goals-against average on 307 shots with -9.1 goals saved above average.
