The Edmonton Oilers face the Dallas Stars with both teams off to great starts to the season. The Oilers have a 17-14-2 record and with three losses in a row are in the middle of the Pacific Division while the Stars have a 19-8-6 record and are in first place in the Central Division. The Oilers look to climb the standings in the Pacific Division while the Stars look to remain in first place in the Central Division and the upcoming game looks to be a good one as a result.

The Oilers have looked promising this season behind an offense that is scoring 3.58 goals per game. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have scored 49 goals and 69 assists as two of the league's best skaters but the rest of the offense has also stepped up. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Zach Hyman, and Derek Ryan have combined for 35 goals and 45 assists while defensemen Darnell Nurse and Tyson Barrie have added nine goals and 35 assists from the point to help open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has been awful, allowing 3.42 goals per game with 12 goals in the last three games. Darnell Nurse and Cody Ceci have combined for 4.0 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. The one bright spot has been the play of goaltender Stuart Skinner who has a .915 save percentage and a 2.83 goals-against average on 620 shots.
