Eastern Michigan Eagles (1-1) vs. Arizona State Sun Devils (1-1)

The Eastern Michigan Eagles face off against the Arizona State Sun Devils at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, as the 2022 college football season continues Saturday, September 17, with Week 3 matchups.

These two schools meet for the first time ever, and the Sun Devils are listed as 20.5-point home favorites. The Eagles are massive +825 moneyline underdogs, while the totals sit at 56.5 points. Both teams lost in Week 2, so let’s take a closer look.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles had a 14-0 halftime lead over the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in Week 2. They eventually suffered a heavy 49-21 defeat, failing to cover an 11-point spread. The Eagles also extended their losing streak against the Ragin’ Cajuns to 15 games.

“I told the guys, and I mean this, that we played really, really hard,” Eastern Michigan coach Chris Creighton said. “It is impossible to win a football game, especially against a championship-caliber opponent when you turn the ball over six times. If it's a zero-zero turnover situation, it's probably a fun locker room right now.”

The Eagles forced no turnovers in Lafayette. Senior signal-caller Taylor Powell, who spent the last four years at Missouri and Troy, went 31-of-50 for 317 yards, a TD, and three interceptions, while senior WR Tanner Knue had eight catches for 89 yards and a TD. The Eagles ran 23 times for a paltry 41 yards and couldn’t cope with Louisiana’s passing game, surrendering 310 yards through the air and 9.1 per pass.

Back in Week 1, Eastern Michigan outlasted the Eastern Kentucky Colonels 42-34 as an 11.5-point home fave. The Eagles yielded a thumping 492 total yards, while senior RB Samson Evans led the charge for EMU’s offense with 15 carries for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Evans notched ten totes for just 19 yards against the Ragin’ Cajuns in Week 2.
