Two Colonial Athletic Association rivals face off against one another on Wednesday when the Drexel Dragons (13-11, 7-5 AAC) visit Newark, Delaware and the Bob Carpenter Center to play against the Delaware Blue Hens (12-13, 4-8 AAC). Drexel lost to Monmouth 69-67 on Saturday for their third loss in four games. Delaware lost to the Charleston Cougars 84-67 on Saturday for their fourth loss in five games. The Dragons are fifth in the conference while the Blue Hens are falling out of the race at ninth in the AAC. L.J. Owens is questionable with a wrist injury for Delaware and is the only player on the injury report for either team.
Drexel is within a few games of first place in the Colonial Athletic Conference thanks to excellent defense as the Dragons are holding opponents to an average of 63.2 points (25th) per game. Opponents are shooting 43% (125th) overall and 34.2% (199th) from 3-point territory. Drexel’s offense has struggled at times as the Dragons are scoring an average of only 66 points (291st) per game, while shooting 42.7% (253rd) overall and 32.3% (263rd) from three point land. Amari Williams is the leading scorer for Drexel with an average of 14.1 points per game and is shooting 53.6% overall, but 25% from three point land. Coletrane Washington is the second leading scorer with an average of 9.9 points per game while shooting just 38.5% overall and 32.3% from three point land. Three of the next four scorers for Drexel are shooting 40.6% or less. Justin Moore is the leader in assists with an average of 2.8 dishes per contest. On the boards, Drexel averages 35 rebounds per game led by Williams with an average of 8.8 boards per game. He also is the leader in steals with an average of 1.4 per game and the best rim protector with an average of 2.3 blocked shots per game.
