The Drake Bulldogs will head to Nashville and face the Belmont Bruins in MVC play from the Curb Event Center on ESPN2. Belmont won the lone previous matchup back in 2021 at home, 74-69.
Drake jumped to 16-6 after defeating Indiana State in Des Moines. The Bulldogs took a big lead into the locker room, and they held off a fierce rally from the Sycamores. Drake is scoring 73.8 points per game, while allowing 63.8 ppg, and shooting 46.1% from the floor.
Drake has won five of their last six games after dropping their first two contests to open 2023. A road win would be huge here for the Bulldogs, as they currently sit at fourth place in the MVC. Tucker DeVries’ play has been huge during this stretch, and after 21 points or more in each of the last four games, he leads Drake in scoring (18.9), while grabbing 5.8 rpg. Senior point guard Roman Penn fished out a career-high 18 aaaists in the win over Evansville, and he’s averaging 10.1 ppg and a team-lead 5.1 apg. Fellow veteran guard Garrett Sturtz double-doubled in the win over Indiana State, and he’s up 8.8 ppg and 6.8 rpg.
