Devils vs. Avalanche Odds, Picks, Predictions: Colorado to Continue Winning Waysiv class=”bodyContent col-lg-9 mb-3″>

Wednesday offers up an outstanding matchup between the New Jersey Devils and the Colorado Avalanche. Here's sports betting analyst Scott Cullen's top NHL pick for the matchup based on the best NHL odds.

Injuries contributed to the Avalanche struggling early in the season, but the defending champs (and current No. 2 Stanley Cup odds favorites) are getting healthy – and positive results have followed. Colorado has won six straight games and has the highest points percentage (.629) in the Central Division.

The Devils, meanwhile, have won four of their past five games and have the third-highest points percentage (.703) in the entire league. Recently acquired winger Timo Meier is not expected to make his Devils debut as he continues to recover from an upper-body injury.

Here is our best Devils vs. Avalanche NHL pick (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Devils vs. Avalanche pick

The Avalanche have a rookie goaltender in action Tuesday – but with how they've been playing of late, that shouldn't matter much.

After uneven results through the first half of the season, Colorado has compiled a 14-2-2 record in the past 18 games. In that time, the Avs have a league-leading .935 save percentage.

Look for them to continue rolling even with Justus Annunen getting the start in goal. The 22-year-old, who has a .913 save percentage in 29 AHL games, stopped 19 of 20 shots in a win against St. Louis in his only NHL start of the season.

The Devils have been winning, as well, but have boasted mediocre possession numbers lately.

The Devils have a 16-4-3 record over the past two months, good for the second-best points percentage (.763) in the league in that span – and yet, they've controlled just 49.6% of five-on-five score-and-venue-adjusted shot attempts and 50.4% of expected goals over the stretch.

Those underlying numbers indicate that the Avalanche can control play and protect their inexperienced netminder against New Jersey. Even so, Annunen's inexperience does cause some pause, keeping this a three-star selection.
