Detroit Tigers vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 7-31-2022

The Detroit Tigers (41-60, 47-54 RL, 39-57-5 O/U) battle the Toronto Blue Jays (55-45, 45-55 RL, 53-46-1 O/U) as the AL foes conclude a three-game series on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers will have the rookie, Garrett Hill on the mound. The Blue Jays will give the nod to veteran Jose Berrios. The Blue Jays lead the season series 3-2 entering Saturday. 

The Tigers will have Garrett Hill make his fifth start of the season. Hill was decent in his latest effort, conceding three runs, and walked four batters in five innings against the Padres, leading to a no-decision in a game the Tigers lost. The rookie right-hander was great in his debut against the Guardians but has been subpar in his other performances and enters with a 5.57 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP accompanied by a 1-2 record in 21 innings. 

Detroit is struggling to win games on the road where they have now lost five out of their last seven bouts entering Saturday. They have been involved in some narrow decisions recently but don’t have enough offense to win games with consistency. Detroit has scored seven runs in this series. 

Javier Baez has collected a d ecent 13 RBIs this month but remains inconsistent. The 29-year-old third baseman is having a frustrating season, hitting nine homers with 38 RBIs and a .638 OPS. Berrios is only 3 for 15 with zero RBIs against the Blue Jays this season.

The Tigers are only averaging 3.24 runs per game, ranking them last. The pitching staff enters with a 4.07 team ERA, placing them 21st in the big leagues.
