The Detroit Tigers spent the 2022 season with one of the worst offenses in the major leagues. Two games into this season and Detroit fans must be wondering if it is deja vu all over again. On Thursday, in the season opener, the Tigers were shut out 4-0 with just six hits and six strikeouts in the game. On Saturday, in game two of the series, things didn't get much better for the Tigers' offense. Detroit again collected just six hits, scoring two runs and striking out ten times. Tigers' starter Spencer Turnball, making his first major league appearance since 2021, allowed seven runs on eight hits in 2 1/3 innings of work. Turnball is returning after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2021 and rehabbing for over a year and a half.

“I'm definitely pretty disappointed. Not exactly the way I was hoping the day would go,” Turnbull said. “Mostly it was disappointing because I didn't giv e us a chance to win.”

Detroit will turn to young lefty Wentz to try and avoid the sweep on Sunday. Wentz was solid after his call-up last season, going 2-2 in seven starts with an ERA of just over three. Wentz allowed just 23 hits in 32 innings of work over seven starts. He struck out 27 batters while walking 13. Wentz went 2-0 on the road last season, allowing just four hits throughout 12.1 innings pitched in two starts. Wentz didn't allow a run in either start and struck out nine while walking three. This will be his first career start against Tampa Bay.

Key Injuries: 1B Tyler Nevin is out.
