Detroit Tigers vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-5-2022

Detroit Tigers (66-93) vs. Seattle Mariners (87-72)

The Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners will close down the 2022 MLB season with a four-game finale at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, on Wednesday afternoon, and the first pitch is set at 4:10 PM ET.

The Tigers outlasted the Mariners 4-3 in Monday’s opener, while Tuesday’s doubleheader from T-Mobile Park has been excluded from the analysis. Detroit will start Tyler Alexander in Wednesday’s closer, and Seattle hasn’t announced who’ll get the starting call.

The Detroit Tigers are undoubtedly one of the biggest disappointments of the 2022 season. They own the lowest-scoring offense in the majors, averaging 3.40 runs per game. Furthermore, the Tigers have hit the fewest home runs in baseball while slashing a miserable .230/.286/.345. On the pitching side of things, Detroit holds a 4.00 ERA (20th in the MLB) and 1.29 WHIP (also 20th).

The Tigers have played in a surprisingly good form as of late. Javier Baez hit a two-run homer in Monday’s narrow victory in Seattle. It was the Tigers’ third straight win and ninth in ten outings, and Detroit has allowed just 27 runs in that ten-game stretch.

Tyler Alexander meets the Mariners for the second time this season. On the last day of August, he tossed 4.2 frames of a two-run, four-hit ball in a no-decision against Seattle at Comerica Park (Detroit eventually lost 5-3). Since then, the 28-year-old left-hander has gone 1-3 with a 4.61 ERA and .792 opposing OPS in five starts (27.1 innings pitched).

Last Friday, Alexander was charged for a loss in a 7-0 defeat to the Minnesota Twins, surrendering three runs on five hits and four walks across five innings while punching out six. He’s now 4-11 with a 4.72 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 56/24 K/BB ratio in 16 starts and ten relief appearances (95.1 IP) in 2022.
