The Tigers entered Tuesday 47-59 on the season and stood third in the AL Central, 6.5 games behind the Twins for the top spot in the division. They were 11.5 games behind the Blue Jays for the final wild card spot in the American League. On Sunday, Detroit got two hits each from Matt Vierling (run), Andy Ibanez and Javier Baez (two runs, RBI) though it wasn’t enough. The Tigers led 4-0 early but let it slip away, sending them to defeat in the process. Tarik Skubal didn’t factor in the decision as he threw 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Rodriguez didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, which came last Tuesday at home against the Angels. In his last three starts, Rodriguez is 2-0 with a 4.32 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, five walks and 17 strikeouts over 16.2 innings of work.
